Robeson County

Know by all these presents that we Andrew West and Henry W. Phillips are held 
and firmly bound unto the State of North Carolina, in the sum of one thousand 
dollars, current money, to be paid to the said State of North Carolina: for 
which payment well and truly to be made and done, we bind ourselves, our 
heirs, executors and administrators jointly and severally, firmly by these 
presents. Sealed with our seals, and dated this 4th day of August A.D. 1859.

The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bounden 
Andrew West hath made application for a License for a Marriage to be 
celebrated between him and Helen Taylor of the County aforesaid: Now, in case 
it shall not appear hereafter, that there is any lawful cause or impediment to 
obstruct the said marriage, then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to 
remain in full force and virtue.
