Ordered that the standard keeper of this county keep his office at 
Lumberton on the first & second days of each court in the year & at his 
own house at all other times

Ordered that Benjamin Lancaster be overseer of a certain piece of 
road from McGugans bridge to Fayetteville road crossing over at John 
Conneils? mill

Ordered that the sheriff summon John Copland James Humphrey 
Thomas Humphrey Lewis Jenkins Edward Jenkins Benjamin Jenkins 
Wm Humphrey Charles Pate John Blount John Clibourn William 
Baxley & John Jackson to lay off a road from the marsh of the raft 
swamp to the Fayetteville road near John Blounts crossing Saddletree 
Swamp at Hammons Ford

Ordered that the clerk issue land warrants for the following entries / to 
wit / two for John Regan one for 300 acres No. 972 the other for 50 
acres No. 971.  One for Wm Little for 150 acres No. 991

Court adjourned untill tomorrow nine o'clock

Thursday October the 5th 1797

Court met according to adjournment

Present the worshipful Elias Barnes Thomas Barnes and Joseph 
Wood Esquires

Ordered that Joab Willis be overseer of the road in room of Samuel 
Thompson

Administration is granted Stephen Braveley on estate of Lydia Braveley 
deceased who entered into bond of fifty pounds with Thomas Ivey and 
Ishmael Roberts his securities & returned an inventory of the estate of 
the deceased

Ordered that James Copland be overseer of the road in room of 
Joseph Wood

Ordered that on the petition of James Stephens for altering the courses 
of a certain tract of land that the lines thereof be accordingly altered 
according to the prayer of the petition filed

Ordered that the clerk issue a land warrant for 300 acres of land for 
Angus Gilchrist No. 1259

On application John Storms mark is admitted to be a crop of the right 
ear & half moon? under each

Ordered that the sheriff summon the following to attend as jurors next
