At a county court of pleas and Quarter Sessions begun and held for the 
county of Robeson Monday the seventh day of October and twenty 
fourth year of American Independence AD 1799

Present the worshipful Joseph Wood John Regan & Archibald Buie 
Esquire

Duncan Kelley exempt from paying a poll tax for the year 1798

On application John McEacharn is admited to keep a publick ferry 
across Drowning Creek where has now a bridge who entered into bond 
with security for the will (well?) keeping the same

Ordered that Abraham Barfield be overseer of the road in room of 
William Maurice

On application Joseph Nobles is admited to keep a public ferry across 
drowning creek at Iveys bluff who entered into bond with security for 
the will (well?) keeping the same

On application Joseph Lee is admited to build a grist mill across the old 
field swamp on his own lands

Ordered that Angus Carter pay to Lewisey Braveboy five pounds for 
the maintenance of a base begotten child which he stands the reputed 
father to commence from this date

Ordered that John McEacharn and neighbours have leave to open a 
road from his bridge into the main road that leads to Fayetteville

Mills Taylor exempt from paying a poll tax & working on publick roads

Ordered that Warren Alford be overseer of the road in room Neill 
McEacharn

Ordered that William Moore Noah Pitman & James Russel be patroles 
for Lumberton District

Ordered that the sheriff summon the following gentlemen to lay of a 
road from Simon Coxes to Jesse Lees / to wit / Newit Pitman William 
Atkinson Meady Lamb Joseph Atkinson Benjamin Lee Willis Loe 
James Barnes Jesse Lee Daniel Drinkwater Joseph Lee Wiley Barnes 
Jesse Pitman Zadekiah Pope Samuel Atkinson & Hardy Pitman and 
that the following hands work on said road / to wit / Benjamin Lee three 
of Kennedys negroes Joseph and William Atkinson Jesse Lee Willis 
Loe Wiley Barnes Jesse Pitman James Barnes Moses Branch and 
Solomon Hardin

Ordered that the hands in the fork of Drowning Creek and the great 
swamp below Peters Swamp be allowed the liberty to open a road the 
nearest & best way to Lumberton and that William Harrison be 
overseer of the same

Ordered that the sheriff summon the following gentlemen to attend as 
jurors at the next Superior Court for the district of Fayetteville / to wit / 
Ralph Regan James McQueen Neill Brown Hugh Brown & Sion Alford
