All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Donna Newman centavo@lserv.com January 14, 2013, 5:08 pm Source: F H L Microfilm #554636 Photo can be seen at: http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/robeson/photos/documents/minutes2608gph.jpg Image file size: 251.6 Kb County court minutes 1797-1813, North Carolina, Superior Court (Robeson County) (/) torn [Deeds were always either "acknowledged in open court" or "proved by oath of...." and then ordered to be registered; to eliminate redundancy, these have been abstracted simply as "acknowledged" or "proved by...."] Page 224 [image 115a] At a county court of pleas and Quarter sessions begun and held for the county of Robeson on Monday the third day of January and twenty seventh year of American Independence AD 1803 Present the worshipful Samuel Biggs Joseph Regan John Regan & Agerton Willis Esquires The sheriff returned the Venire Facias from which the court selected the following gentlemen to attend as Grand Jurors during this term to wit Isham Pitman Foreman Stephen Beck William Carlisle Archibald Little Simon Willis Tarlor Aguien Newit Pitman John Buie John Barnes Benjamin Blount Henry Pope Silas Adkins and William Thompson and John Rea constable sworn to attend them Last will and testament of Nathan Pitman deceased proved by Josiah Barnes and admited to record when Levi Pitman one of executors of said will came into court as Qualified as such Last will and testament of John McLain deceased proved by Archd McLain and admited to record when Daniel McLain Executor of said will came into court and Qualified as such Ordered that William Moore John McNeill and Robert Haills assess the town property for the year 1802 Page 225 [image 115b] John Biggs constable made it appear to this court that he attached seven head of cattle of Aaron Cumboes at the suit of William Townsend and Mitchel Boggs and that he kept them forty days for which the court is of oppinion he should be allowed fifty shillings to be paid by the defendant [in the left margin: "this ordered reversed?"] Whereas it has been ? to this court that a boy by the name of Horatia Revel a few years ago was bound to Elijah Revel and that said boy is illy treated by his master, ordered therefore that John Blount constable bring said boy to next court and that notice issue to said Elijah Revel to appear at next court to show cause if any he hath why said boy may not be taken from him and bound to some other person Mary Hammon a girl of colour bound apprentice to George Moore untill she arrive to the age of eighteen years old now being twelve when said George Moore entered into bond in the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds with William Moore his security for not moving said girl out of said county and to produce her before the court of ths county at the expiration of her service Samson Bridgers Esquire returned an execution at the suit of Nathan Pitman against John Henry Laton for twenty pounds and costs levied by Alexander Rowland on one hundred acres of land on the south side of Ashpole on Haleys swamp ordered that the sheriff sell the same Ordered that Archibald McLain be allowed to turn the road round his improvements on his puting it in that order that the law requires Ordered that the following hands be added to the district of Alexr Evans overseer of the road and hands work under him / to wit / Dugald Curry & John Munn?
