County court minutes 1797-1813, North Carolina, Superior Court (Robeson 
County) – 1806-1813

Tuesday April 7th 1807

Court met according to adjournment

Present the worshipfull Thomas Sewell Sampson Bridgers & Duncan Campbell 
Esquires

The following gentlemen were selected to serve as grand jurors during this term 
to Wit Hugh Brown Henry Taylor Simon Willis Alexander McMillan Angus McGill 
John Buie (/)b Barnes Archibald Smith John Storm Ralph Barlow Benjamin Blount & 
Mathew Powers Also Jacob Mercer was sworn constable to attend them

Ordered that James McNeil & Randol Curry Esquires be a committee to examen the 
accounts of Neil McNeil guardian to Jennet McNeil & make report to next term

["Recinded" is written across the following] Ordered that John Storm Robert 
Haills and Jesse Lee be commissioners for rebuilding the bridge of Lumberton 
and that the same be erected as near the old bridge as may be so that it be not 
erected above the Main Street and that the building of the same be let out to 
the lowest bidder by the sheriff within one month from this term.  The sheriff 
to supperintend the same and have it completed before next court with bond and 
security in the name of the Chairman of the Court the charge to be paid by 
the ? to be allow'd if ?  

Ordered that James Lewis Junr be overseer of the road in room of James Suggs 
and that the usual hands work under him

Ordered that Duncan Curry Guardian to Jennet & Malcom? Smith be empowered to 
sell one hundred acres of land lying in the County of Cumberland in order to 
satisy the debts of Peter Smith deceased father to the above mentioned wards

Ordered that Briton Barnes be overseer of the the road in room of Michael 
Herring and that the former hands work thereon

Ordered that William Munroe be overseer of the road in room of Peter Smith

["Recended" written over the following] Ordered that Moses Hill be overseer of 
the road in the room of Everit Lee and the usual hands work under him

Ordered that Samuel McDugald be exempt from the payment of the tax on two 
hundred acres of land for which he was charged by mistake

Jacob Barnes and Martha Barnes were appointed Administrator and Administratix 
of the estate of Josiah Barnes deceased agreeable to his Nuncupative Will 
ordered that the[y] be allowed to sell the perishable property of the sd estate

John Campbell was appointed guardian to Jennet McNeil an Idiot who entered into 
bond in the sum of three thousand pounds with Duncan McNeill & Archd McNeil his 
securities

The Administrators of the estate of Josiah Barnes decd returned an inventory of 
his estate, ordered to be filed

Deed from Jesse Barnes to John Pope proved by Benjamin Lee

Deed from William Ashely to John Vernon acknowledged
