County court minutes 1797-1813, North Carolina, Superior Court (Robeson 
County) – 1806-1813

Ordered that Jacob Messer be allowed the sum of thirty two shillings for his 
attendance this term

Ordered that John Storm William Ashley and Robert Haills be a Committee to 
Settle with John McColl admr and James Campbell Guardian of the Estate of John 
McKays orphan children and that they report to next term

Ordered that the Sheriff summon the following gentlemen to attend as Jurors at 
the next County Court to Wit Kedar Hawthorn Isaac Smith John Shaw Irvin 
Grimsley Ben Edwards John Pope Giles Williams John Hawthorn Junr Jesse Philips 
John Hesters Jesse Lee Angus Black John Biggs Jacob Rhodes Jacob Blount Junr

Alen McLachlin appointed Constable in Captain McKays District who entered into 
bond in the sum of two hundred pounds with Thomas Davis & Archd McNeil his 
security

Court adjourned untill tomorrow 9 oclock

Friday April 10th [1807] Court met according to adjournment

Present the worshipfull Robert Haills John McNiel & William Ashley Esquires

Ordered that John McRae be overseer of the road in room of Lachlin Curry

Ordered that Moses Hill work all the hands on the south side of Ashpole who 
formerly worked under Daniel Powell on the stage Road from the state line to 
the Edge of the North Run of Ashpole

Order that Reston Powell be overseer & work all the hands on the North Side of 
Ashpole that formerly worked under Daniel Powell from the South edg[e] of the 
North Run of said Swamp to the plantation of Mrs. Rowland

Ordered that the County Treasurer pay to Alfred Rowland Esq the sum of Twelve 
pounds ten shillings paid by him to Charles Ivy for Building the Temporary Gaol 
by order of Court

Ordered that the sheriff summon a Jury to lay off a road in the most eligible 
way leading from Lumberton to Fayetteville so as to miss the Nuisance? now on 
the Old Road Occasioned by Jacob Rhodes mill pond

Court adjourned untill Court in Course
