Tuesday July 5th 1808

Court met according to adjournment

Present the worshipfull Sion Alford Archibald McNeill & Nicholas Powell Esquires

The sheriff returned the Venire Facias when the following gentlemen were 
selected to serve as Grand Jurors during this term to Wit James Barnes Richard 
Lamb Daniel Buie Benjamin Humphrys Jesse Harrel Mathew Kelly Moses Grantham 
Neill Ferguson Duncan McPhattair Robert McLachlin Marmaduke Howell Britton Britt 
and at the same time Evan Ellis was sworn Constable to attend them

Ordered that Thomas Barnes be overseer of the Creek from Griffins Bluff to Fair 
Bluff & work the following hands to wit Joseph Lewis Britton Barnes ? Thomas 
Bullard William Ashleys hands at his plantation and Theophilus Griffins hands

Ordered that Stephen Sterling be overseer of the Creek from the Bluff to 
Griffins Bluff and work the following hands to wit Moses Parker Absalom Pitman 
Wm Lawson and his own hands

Ordered that Michael Herring be overseer of the road from Iveys Bluff to John 
Daniells and work the following hands to wit Dawson Waters William Waters Asa 
Daniells John Mathews Isaac Bledsoe Errick Legget Joshua Barnes John Herring Wm 
Bullard and Ambrose Bullard

Ordered that Col John Rigan in future be exempt from the payment of a poll tax 
for a negroe fellow named Tom

Ordered that the Admrs of Needham Rowland decd be empowered to sell two tracts 
of land the property of said deceased to satisfy the debts ? by the estate

Ordered that Thompson S Gleener be allowed to keep Ezekill Dorsey untill next 
Court and that he cite Malcom McQuick to appear at next court to show cause why 
the said Ezekiel should not be released from him
