At a Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions begun and held at the Town 
of Lumberton for the County of Robeson on the fourth Monday of May 
and in the thirty fourth year of our Independence Anno Domini 1810

Present the worshipful Joseph Regan Archibald McNeil William 
Sterling Esquires

Ordered that the sheriff summon the following gentlemen to lay off the 
dower of Tabitha Wilkes widow of Israel Wilkes deceased and that 
they report to next term To Wit Daniel McPhaul John McDonald Neil 
McNeill John McPhaul Duncan McLauchlin Daniel McNeil John 
McPhater Norman Gillis John McMillan Daniel Kelly Angus Gillis 
William McNeill esq Neil McNeill (miller) John Campbell and that they 
also divide the property among the heirs of the deceased

Ordered that John Barnes be overseer of the road in room of Isaac 
Bledsoe

Ordered that Erick Legget be overseer of the road in room of Michael 
Herring

Ordered that Alfred Rowland Thomas Sewell Angus Taylor Bengeman 
Lee Nicholas Powell Moses Hill & Wm Barnes be a committee to 
examine the post road leading from Lumberton to Little Pee Dee 
known by the name of Ashpool Swamp and that they allso be 
impowered to let out the reparing the said swamp to the lowest bidder 
and that they report their proceedings to next term and that [the] said 
expences become a county charge – that the same be compleated 
within six months the undertaken be bound to keep the same in good 
repair for five years the monies which may be subscribed to be 
counted to discharge the expence attending the same

Ordered that Gilbert Murphy have leave to build a mill on his own land 
and across the long swamp in this county
