On April 15, 1869 he married Flora Elizabeth (Bettie) Sealey. Joseph was the son of John Walters and Lucy Nance Walters. He is buried at Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery, near Barnesville. NC. Joseph Walters civil war record from "North Carolina Troops 1861-1865 A Roster" Volume VI page 354. Joseph Walters, Private, born in Robeson County, NC and was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Robeson County, NC at age 20 on 18 May 1861 in Company D 18th Regiment, NC Troops. Present and accounted for until captured at or near Gettsburg, Pennsylvania on 3-4 July 1863. Confined at Fort Delaware, Delaware until transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland between 15-18 October 1863. Paroled from Point Lokout on 18 February 1865, and transferred to Boulware's Cox's Wharves, James River Virginia where he was received on 20-21 February 1865, for exchange. Reported present with a detachment of paroled and exchanged prisoners at Camp Lee, near Richmond, Virginia 28 February 1865. Mr Joseph Walters, Near Barnesville---7th Member of Family to Die Within 13 Months Mr Joseph Walters, aged 80 years died Monday afternoon at his home near Barnesville, death resulting from the infirmities of old age. Deceased is survived by several children. The funeral was conducted from Bethesda Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock and interment was made in the church cemetery. Mr Walters was the seventh member of the Walters family to died within the last 13 months, four brothers, one sister and two sisters-in-law having died during that time.
