County of Bladen, State of North Carolina ______ being of perfect & sound memory do make this my last will & Testament as follows: I give & bequeath to my son James Ard one negro wench named (?) and a negro girl named Lucy to have and to hold forever after my decease and then to descend to his seed to be theirs forever after my decease. I give & bequeath to my son Thomas Ard one negro man named Simon and one negro girl named Dinal and one hundred acres of land above him together with the moveables he is (?) with to be his and his heirs forever after my decease. I give and bequeath to my son Reuben Ard one hundred acres whereon he now lives and one hundred acres above him one negro wench named (?) and a negro girl named Hannah and a negro boy named Simon and another boy named John, another named Daniel and another named Henry to be his and his heirs forever after my decease and (?) to his heirs forever and the moveables his as now forever with. I also appount James Ard my whole and sole executor of this my last will & Testament of my will in writing whereof I have set my hand and seal this 24th day of December 1785 in the presence of (unreadable). Item as to my son William Ard and my son John Ard I cut them off with one shilling sealing each with (here the writing suddenly stops as far as completing the sentence) Signed: James Ard Signed James Biggs, Richard (x) Bullard Additional Comments: James Ard lived in Bladen County, NC. Bladen was divided in 1787 and the part James Ard lived in became Robeson County, NC. About three years ago I read a note that said the will had been cut from the records of North Carolina. I found this copy on microfilm in our genealogy library in Macon, GA. Not all of the words were readable so I have placed a question mark in such places.
