BROWN LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT Probated 1846 State of North Carolina. Robeson County ???? In the name of God amen I Neill B. Brown, being of sound mind and memory, blessed be God, do make me ordain and publish this last Will and Testament in the following manner and form to witt. Item 1st I desire that my body be disposed of in decent christian burial. Item 2nd I give and bequeath to my beloved Wife Mary Brown the Plantation on which I reside during the time of her natural life or widow - hood, and my Plantation known as the McDougald place, and also my plantation known as the ???? place, to hold and ??? during her widow hood, until my son Malcom Brown shall have attained the age of twentyone. Item 3rd I give and bequeath to my beloved children viz. Penelope Brown, Flora Ione(?) Brown, Effie Brown, Mesy Brown, Malcom Brown, Mary Brown, Harriet Brown, Neill Brown, John Brown, Catherine Frances Brown an equal interest in the negro slaves of which I may be ???? and possessed at the time of my death. Item 4th It is my will and desire that all my negro slaves shall remain on the plantation under management of wife Mary Brown until my Daughter Catherine F Brown attains the age of eighteen years then it is my wish and desire that an agreed division should take place. Item 5 th Should any of my Daughters Marry before my daughter Catherine Frances Brown shall have attained the age of eighteen years then it is my wish and desire that my Executor hereafter to be mentioned summon three disinterested persons whose duty it should be to select from the common s??? of the negro slaves or female servants which servants should be for sole use and service of such daughter or daughters for marrying untill my daughter C Frances Brown shall have attained the age of eighteen ????? and her issue if she has any must be returned to the common stock. Item 6 th In virtue of this bequest to hertofore made to my beloved wife Mary Brown it shall be her duty to maintain my children on this plantation and give them such an education as their circumstances will permit. Item 7 I give and bequeath to my son Malcom Brown My Plantation known as the McDougald Place and eighty acres, my Plantation known as the Smiths place after he shall have attained the age of twenty one years to be his, his heirs and assigns forever. Item 7 this I give and bequeath to my son Neill Brown, After his mother's death, this plantation on which I reside immediately preceding my death and the balance of my Smith's Place to be his and his heirs and assigns forever. Item 8 th I give and bequeath to my son John Brown four hundred and fifty dollars, to be kept out as interest until he shall have attained the age of twenty one years then to appropriate to the purchase of Land Item 9 th I give and bequeath thi to my beloved children hertofore mentioned an equal interest in all my perishaable propery, and it is my wish and desire that it should all remain on the plantation for their m;utual support and benefit till my daughter C F Brown shall have attained the age of eighteen years, unless others of my daughters should marry, in that event it is my wish and desire that each one on marrying receive a bed and bedding some stock which ever to be absolutely theirs, but which must be valued and validation returned to the common stock. I nominate and constitute my beloved wife Mary Brown Executix to this my last will and Testament and I hereby revoke all former wills ???? my time made.
