All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/ncfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sam West sam.west.1@gmail.com April 4, 2013, 2:58 pm Source: N C Archives Written: 1814 LAST WILL & TESTAMENT OF PENELOPE CLINTON In the Name of God Amen I Penelope Clinton of the Town of Lumberton in the County of Robeson and State of North Carolina, being weak of body but of Sound mind and understanding, do make this my last will & testament in manner and form following, to wit, Item, I give devise and bequeath to my Son Owen Clinton my negro Woman Lucy, my negro Boy Virgil, two feather Beds and furniture, and a Small mahogany Side Table, To him and his heirs forever, with the exception that Should Said negro woman Lucy be delivered of a child with which She is not pregnant, I give devise and bequeath said Child when born to my Grandaughter Rachel Clinton, (daughter of my Son Richard Clinton) to her and her heirs forever – Item, I give devise and bequeath to my Sons Richard and Owen Clinton my part of the Court house plantation in Sampson County, to be equally devided between them – and to their heirs forever - Item I give devise and bequeath to my Son William S. Clinton and my Daughter Ann Holmes my part of a tract of Land in Sampson County known by the name of the Ballard plantation whereon William S. Clinton formerly lived, to be equally divided between them – and to their heirs forever - Item I give devise and bequeath to my Daughter Mary Eliza Rowland, wife of Alfred Rowland, My Negro woman Fanny and her two children George & Eliza, also my boy George (brother of Virgil) Four Feather Beds, Ten Pair Sheets Counterpaines & Blankets – to her and her heirs forever Item, I give devise and bequeath to my Grandson Richard C. Rhodes a mourning ring – to be purches out of my estate -- Item, I give devise and bequeath to my Grand children Burwell, Isaac, & Arabella Lanier five Shillings each to be paid out of my Estate -- Item I give devise & bequeath to my Daughter Mary Eliza Rowland two feather Beds now in poSseSsion of William S. Clinton and by her to be given to the children of my son Richard Clinton in such manner as She may think proper – I give to my Daughter Mary E. Rowland my two looking GlaSses together with all and every Other property of which I may die poSseSsed – to her and her heirs forever – I appoint my Son-in-law Alfred Rowland and Angus Taylor my Executors of this my last will and Testament re[v]oking all others by me heretofore made In Testimony of w[hic]h I have hereunto set [m]y hand and seal this 28th August 1814 Signed Sealed & ackno[wle]dged in presence of Richd [Bun]ting Penelope Clinton {Seal} [John W Powell] State of No. Carolina } I Penelope Clinton having made & signed this day my Robeson County } last will & Testament, and feeling not wholly satisfied Therewith, do make this amendment to the same which I wish to be as though it had been first named -- Item, To My Grand children Burwell, Isaac & Arabella Lanier to whom I have and given five shillings each, I give devise & bequeath Twenty Shillings each to be paid out of my Estate --- Item, To my Grandchildren – children of my daughter Elizabeth Bunting (decd) I give each Twenty Shillings To be paid out of my Estate.
