Robeson County, NC - Will of Stephen Glare ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Stephen & wife Mary murdered between Dec 1794 and the 1800 census Will of Stephen Glare In the name of God Amen. I, Stephen Glare of the county of Robeson & State of North Carolina being weak of body But of perfect mind and memory & calling to mind that it is once appointed for all men to die do make this my last will & testament in the manner and form following viz that is to say my soul to god & my body to be buried in a Decent & Christian like manner at the discretion of my friends & my worldly estate to be disposed of as follows. Item I lend unto my beloved wife Mary Glare two hundred & forty two acres of land including the plantation whereon I now live with one horse all the plantation utensiles one molatto girl named Hannah & the old winch Jin, all the Household furniture, cattle & hoggs that is not livin after Disposed of during her natural life & after her decease the said 242 acres of land I give and bequeath to my daughter Esther Smith & her heirs for ever. I give and bequeath to my daughter Betsy Pitman the one half of a crosscut saw that is between me and her husband Sion Pitman, Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Celia Britt forty seven pounds and ten shillings, one large chest one hundred and thirty eight acres of land on the west side of Flowers Swamp joining the Lee's and Ivey's line be the same more or less to her and her heirs for ever. Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Ann Phillips fifty acres of land situated in the county of Robeson on Peters Lake Forty seven pounds ten shillings in money to her and her heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Little one cow & calf to her & her heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath To my daughter Benaclare Glare one hundred and fifty acres of land situated in the Burnt Islands joining the above 242 acres one mare one cow & calf one bed & bed stead, one pewter dish & three plates to her & her heirs for ever. Item I give and bequeath to my grand son Stephen Glare Phillips one cow & calf, one musket gun to him & his heirs for ever. And one other gun to my said wife Mary gor ever. The aforesaid Molatto girl Hannah to be set free or sold & the moneyarising therefrom to be equally divided among all my children. This to be at the discretion of my said wife as far as concerns the mancipation or bondage of the said girl Hannah & all the remainder of the property both to my said wife that is not hereto given to be sold after her death. The money arrising therefrom to be equally divided among all my children Nominating and appointing my wife Mary executrix & James Smith & Jacob Rhodes executors to this my last will & testament in witness thereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 12th day of December 1794 Interlined in the 15th line from the top the words (& the old wench Jean) previous to its execution.
