Robeson County, NC - Will of Rev. Malcolm McNair, 1822 ~~~~~~~~~~ Recorded in Will Book A, Page 317 pursuant to order court May term 1838 In the name of God, Amen. I, Malcolm McNair enjoying through mercy a sound and composed mind fully persuaded that my continuance here will not be long do in hope of resurrection to life eternal, commit my body to the dust and with Humble trust on the merits of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, commit my soul to him of whom mercy and complete righteousness I earnestly depend. I. I bequeath to my dear wife Jennet my plantation, Negro girl Betty, farming utensils, horse and gig with a proportional share of household furniture and stock during her lifetime. II. I bequeath to my three daughters Eliza Jane, Catherine and Annabella, the Negroes, Jacob, Julia, Henry and their proportion of the household furniture. III. I bequeath unto my son Murphy my land after his mother's death, Negro boy Carlisle, one half of my books and what money may remain. IV. I bequeath the balance of my books to the girls and their mother, equally the selection and division to be made by the Rev. Daniel Smith. V. It is my will that the children and their mother live together on the farm and enjoy the benefit of each other's property as long as may be thought convenient and profitable to do so. VI. If either of my heirs above named should be by death or other providence deprive of their share, it is my will that they be placed on equal footing with the others. VII. I nominate and appoint my wife Jennet McNair, Roderick McNair, my brother and Sion Alford, Jr. to execute this my last will and testament with power to sell or exchange as prudence may point out.
