Newit Pitman will, 1787

In the name of God Amen the 1st Day of February 1787 I newit Pitman of the 
state of North Carolina and County of Robeson, Planter, being very sick and 
weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God, 
therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is 
appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and 
Testament that is to say principally and first of all, I give and recommend my 
soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body, I recommend to 
the earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the discretion of my 
Executor nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the 
same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly Estate 
wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give devise and 
dispose of the same in the following manner and form.  First, I give and 
bequeath to Hardy Pitman, my well beloved son, all the land contained in two 
first surveys belonging to me on the east side of horse swamp with my 
plantation thereon to him and his heirs or assigns but my wife to take seventy 
five acres of said land where it may best suit her as lent to her during her 
natural life and after that to remain the property of said son Hardy Pitman and 
one feather bed and furniture and the cattle that is now called his with their 
increase.

Also I give and dispose of the remaining parts of the two forementioned tracts 
of land to my well beloved son James Pitman that lieth on the west side of 
horse swamp with one feather bed of furniture and one mare now called his mare 
and the cattle that is now called his with their increase to him and his heirs 
and assigns.

Also I give to my well beloved daughter Ann Spier one bible of two ewes of 
lambs.

Also I give to my well beloved daughter Charity Pitman two hundred acres of 
land lying at a small distance from my other land and beginning near the 
cypress bay at the head of Horn Camp and one horse colt and the cattle that is 
called her cattle with their increase and one feather bed and furniture.

Also I give to Lamb Thompson one featherbed and furniture to his own use.

And the rest of my estate to be disposed of to my children as my wife may best 
think fit.

And I do likewise constitute make and ordain Isham Pitman my sole executor of 
this my last will and testament and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and 
dissannul all and every other former testament wills, legacies and bequests and 
Executors by me in any ways before named willed and bequeathed, Ratifying and 
confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above 
written.  Signed, sealed, pronounced and declared by the said Newit Pitman as 
his last will and testament in the presence of the subscribers.
