That is to Say, Principally and first of all I recommend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it, and my body to the earth, to be buried in a decent Christian like manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter mentioned, and as for such worldly estate wherewith it pleased God to bleSs me in this life I Give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form To wit. Item First, I give devise and bequeath to my son Jacob Thompson all my Lands on Drowning Creek or Lumber River which lies above a line to be drawn from the landing nearest the dwelling houses on said Plantation to run a direct course to the CroSsing place at the Back Swamp towards Jacob Barnes’. Second I give devise and bequeath to my son Lewis Thompson the lower part of my Lands on Lumber River above refered to or mentioned. Thirdly I give devise and Bequeath to my son Jordan all that part of my Lands purchased from John Barnes which lies on the East side of Hog Swamp extending to the middle of Said Swamp. Fourthly I give devise and bequeath to my son Joseph Thompson the whole of my Lands near Kenneth Black’s on the West side of Horse Swamp and on each side of Aaron Swamp with an exception of Six acres. Fifthly I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Thompson a negro girl named Aley. Sixthly ~ I give and devise and bequeath to my daughter Charity one negro Boy named Martin. Seventhly I give to my daughter Appey One negro Boy named Percil. Eightly ~ Whenever my son Lewis arrives to the age of Twenty One Years it is my wish and desire that the balance of my negroes not before devised be equally and equitably divided into Two parcels - and One half thereof (that is to say once parcel) to be equally divided between my Seven Children (namely, Jacob, Jordan, Joseph & Lewis & three daughters Patsey, Susannah and Mary ~ Ninthly - I give devise and bequeath to my loving wife during her natural life the Balance of my Land and negroes not before disposed of and after her death ~ I give and bequeath to my son Charles all that part of the John Barnes Land lying on the West side of Hog Swamp extending to the middle of said Swamp ~ I give & bequeath to my Son Wiley all the Lands on the Old field Swamp, to the East Edge thereof including the mill. I give devise and bequeath to my son James all the Land on the East side of Old field Swamp below the old road, also one hundred & forty acres called the Thomas Pervatt Land ~ I give & bequeath the Lands above the old road whereon I now live, also Two hundred and Twelve acres on the Burnt Bay to my Son Berry which includes sundry Tracts ~ The other half of my negroes or those not before divised (after the death of my wife) I give devise and bequeath to my Other seven Children (Namely) Sarah, Wiley, Charles, James, Berry Charity & Appey – and after the death of my wife it is my desire that all my household property and Stock of all kinds be equally divided among the whole of my Children. It is my intention, and I here declare it to be my particular will and desire that all the property herein devised to each and every of my Sons be to them and their heirs forever ~ But to my daughters ~ Such part as I have here particularly devised and such share as may fall to them according to the meaning and intention of my will aforesaid, I do hereby declare it as my intention that they have the use and benefit thereof during their natural lives and then to descend to the heirs of their body’s if any ~ if not any Heirs ~ then to their lawful Heirs ~ & lastly I Nominate and appoint my worthy friend Jacob Alford and my son Jacob Thompson, and my son in Law John Thompson Executors of this my last will and Testament.
