ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, NC - BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES - Ransom Colquitt --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Ransom Colquitt was born in Halifax Co., VA. in 1752 to Tabitha Ransom and Jonathan Colquitt; he enlisted twice in in the VA. Continental Line and as a dragoon, fought in many of the major battles of the Revolution. He was badly wounded and lost the use of an arm and one eye during his second enlistment in Capt. Watts' company. When he returned home, he married Susannah Baker, dau. of Martin Baker on Nov. 25, 1785, and they moved to Rockingham Co. where they remained the rest of Ransom's life. They had about 8 children; the exact number is unknown. Late in life, he applied for a military pension and received $96.00 per year. He died on Sept. 2, 1825. His burial site is unknown, though I am told by other Colquitts that they usually buried family members on their farms. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
