Rockingham County, NC - James Hays Land Grant, 1795 ~~~~~~~~~~ Hays, James Grant 100 acres Rockingham County Courthouse Office of Register of Deeds Book D; Page 259 Entry # R - 114 State of North Carolina No. 207 To all whome these presents shall Come Greeting Know Ye That We for and in consideration of the Sum of Thirty Shillings for every hundred acres of land hereby Granted, paid in to our Treasury by James Hays have given and granted and by these presents do Give & Grant unto the said James Hays a tract of land Containing One Hundred acres lying & being in the County of Rockingham on the waters of the Brushey fork of Jacobs Creek Beginning at a Spanish Oak in Alexander Martins Esq s line, hence west Sixty four poles to a post Oak in John D Carness line, then North along his line thirty eight poles to a black Oak his corner then West along another of his lines forty four poles to a post Oak then North One hundred & twenty Six poles to a White Oak on the Side of a hill near a branch of the brushey fork of Jacobs Creek, then East One hundred and eight poles crossing a branch to a grub, then South along his own line and Alexander Martins line again to the first Station as by the plat hereunto annexed doth appear. Together with all woods, waters, mines, minerals, hereditaments & appurtenances to the said land belonging or Appertaining To Hold to the said James Hays his heirs and Assigns forever. Yielding and paying to us Such Sums of money Yearly or otherwise as our General Assembly from time to time direct. Provided always that the said James Hays Shall cover this grant to be registered in the Register's office of our said county of Rockingham within the time limited by Law, otherwise the Same Shall be void and of No Effect. In Testimony whereof we have caused these our lettter to be made patent and our great Seal to be hereunto affixed.
