Rockingham County, NC - James Hays Jr. Land Grant, 1795 ~~~~~~~~~~ Rockingham County Courthouse Office of Register of Deeds Book D; Page 259 Hays, James Junr Grant 150 Acres State of North Carolina No. 232 To all whom these Presents Shall come Greeting Know Ye That We for and in consideration of the Sum of Thirty Shillings for every hundred acres of land hereby Granted, paid into our Treasury by James Hays Junr have given and granted and by these presents do give & grant unto the said James Hays Junr a tract of land containing One Hundred & fifty acres lying & being in the County of Rockingham on the waters of Jacobs creek Beginning at a black Jack John D Carners corner then West thirty five poles to a post Oak Saplin in Jacob Whitworth's, thence North along his line crossing the Meadow branch of Jacobs Creek eighty eight poles to his corner The same course continued in all two hundred & thirty Seven poles to a white oak then East along along (sic) Pleasant Hendersons line Crossing one branch one hundred & fifty eight poles to a black Oak standing on a Steep Hill near the branch, then South crossing it again and along James Hays Senr line one hundred thrity four poles to a post Oak (?) corner, then West along John D. Carners line One hundred & twenty three poles to his corner black Oak, then along his line South to the first Station as by the plat here unto annexed doth Appear. Together with all woods, waters, mines, minerals hereditaments and appurtenances to the said land belonging or appertaining To Hold to the said James Hays Junr his Heirs & assigns forever. Yielding and paying to us Such Sums of money yearly, or otherwise, as our General Assembly from time to time may direct. Provided always That the said James Hayes Junr Shall cause this grant to be Registered in the Registers Office of our said County of Rockingham within the time limited by Law, otherwise the Same Shall be void & of No Effect.
