Persons or organizations desiring to use this material, must obtain the written consent of the contributor, or the legal representative of the submitter, and contact the listed USGenWeb archivist with proof of this consent. ************************************************************************ FHL Film #0019709 Rockingham Co, NC Register of Deeds Book Q (1815-17) [ I transcribed the surnames in all caps to make them easier to see] Book Q - Pp 280-281 No. 2424 JOYCE, Peter from GROGAN, Samuel Deed of Trust This Indenture made the 7th day of January 1817, Between Samuel GROGAN of the county Rockingham & State of North Carolina of the one part & Peter JOYCE of the same county & state aforesaid of the other part, Witnesseth, that for and in consideration of the sum of seventy five dollars in hand paid by William JENNINGS, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged - the said Samuel GROGAN doth hereby Bargain & sell unto the said Peter JOYCE to hold in trust one tract or parcel of Land, situate lying and being in the county aforesaid on pappaw Creek containing one hundred acres more or less, & bounded as followeth (to wit) - Beginning at a black oak tree in Bartholomew GROGANs line, thence South one hundred poles to a white oak, thence West fifty poles to a black oak, thence a South west course thirty poles to a chesnut, thence nearly Southeast thirty poles to a white oak in Bartholomew GROGANs line, thence West one hundred poles to a white oak, thence North one hundred & sixty poles to a white oak, thence East one hundred poles to the first station. Which said tract or parcel of land with the appurtenances thereunto belonging the said Samuel GROGAN doth warrant and defend unto the said Peter JOYCE to hold in trust to secure the payments of the aforesaid sum of seventy five dollars to the said William JENNINGS to be paid on or before the first day of November next, and if the said sum of seventy five dollars, or any part thereof shall remain unpaid, at the said day - then and in that case the said Peter JOYCE is hereby authorized to make sale of said lands, first advertising the same twenty days at three or more public places in said county, and such sale when made is to be valid to all intents and purposes & the said Peter JOYCE is hereby fully empowered to convey in fee simple all the right and title of the said Samuel GROGAN in and to the said land to the person who shall become the last and highest bidder for the same, and to pay unto the said William JENNINGS the aforesaid sum together with lawful Interest & cost of carrying this Indenture into execution. And the balance, if any, to pay unto the said Samuel GROGAN. In Witness whereof the said Samuel GROGAN hath hereunto set his hand and seal the date above written.
