Power of Attorney

Know all men by these presents that I Elijah JOYCE of Rockingham County; 
for divers good causes and considerations me hereunto moving [?] have 
made, ordained, authorized, nominated and appointed, and by these presents
do make, ordain, authorize, nominate and appoint James JOYCE my true and 
lawful attorney, for me, and in my name, and for my own proper use and 
benefit, do ask, demand, sue for recover and receive of and from any 
person or persons all such sum or sums of money; debts and demands 
whatsoever which are now due and owing unto me the said Elijah JOYCE by 
any person or persons, and to have, use and take all lawful ways and 
means in my name otherwise for the recovery therein be attached and 
arrest, distress or otherwise, and to compound and agree for the same, 
and acquittances or other sufficient discharges for the same for me and 
in my power to make, seal and deliver and to do all other lawful acts and 
things whatsoever concerning the premises as fully and in every respect 
as I myself might or could do, when I personally present at the doing 
thereof; ex__ attorneys one or more under him, for the purpose aforesaid 
to make, and again at his pleasure to revoke, ratifying and confirming 
and by these presents allowing whatsoever my said attorney shall in my 
name lawfully do or cause to be done in and about the premises, by virtue 
of these presents.
	In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal

	James JOYCE is by this power of attorney authorized to convey my 
Interest in a certain tract of land lying in the fork of Dan & Mayo 
Rivers so that he procure to me two hundred & fifty dollars, and the 
further sum of forty eight dollars & 66 cents, money owing to me by Adam 
T. JOYCE, and the sum of Thirty dollars owing me by John H. JOYCE
