This Indenture made the 28th day of Novr. In the 22d year of our 
Independence and in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred & 
ninety seven Between Robert MEANES of the one part & William MEANES of 
the other part both of Rockingham County & State of North Carolina 
Witnesseth that for & in consideration of the Sum of [blank] Pounds by 
the said Robert MEANS in hand paid the receipt is hereby fully 
acknowledged, the sd. Robert MEANS hath given bargained & sold and by 
these presents doth give grant bargain and sell unto the said William 
MEANS his heirs & assigns a certain piece or parcel of Land lying & being 
in the County of Rockingham & state of North Carolina aforesaid Situate & 
lying on the waters of the Mayo River  Begining on Humprey BROOKS'S line 
on a post oak, runing West One hundred & thirty five poles crossing 
hickory creek to a white oak thence South one hundred & eighty poles to a 
Chesnut crossing hickory creek and a branch, -- East one hundred thirty 
five poles to a post oak, thence North one hundred & eighty poles crossing
two branches to the begining containing two hundred acres of land be the 
Same more or less To have & to hold the aforesaid 200 acres of land be the
Same more or less in any ____ belong to him the said William MEANES his 
heirs and assigns forever and the said Robert MEANES for himself his heirs
& assigns doth hereby covenant and agree with the same William MEANES that
he the said William MEANS his heirs & assigns Shall & may forever 
hereafter peaceably and quietly have hold occupy possess and enjoy the 
aforesaid granted lands & premises without the let of molestation of any 
person whatsoever & free and clear of & from all manner of incumbrances 
whatsoever, and the said Robert MEANS doth oblige himself & his heirs & 
Exers. & his Admrs. To Warrant and defend the aforesaid granted land and 
premises to him the said William MEANES his heirs & assigns forever 
against the claim of all persons whatsoever In Witness whereof Robert 
MEANS hath hereunto Set his hand & Seal the day & year above written
