Rockingham County, NC - John Nelson Land Grant, 1789 ~~~~~~~~~~ Rockingham County Office of Register of Deeds Book C; Page 1 Entry # G 346 State of North Carolina No. 1582 to Nelson John} Grant 4 140 acres To whom these presents shall come Greeting Ye, That We, for and in consideration of the sum of Fifty Shillings for every hundred acres of land here by granted, paid unto our treasury by Robert Nelson have given and Granted and by these presents do give and grant unto the said Robert Nelson a tract of land containing One Hundred and forty acres by and being in our county of Guilford On both Sides the East fork of Jacobs Creek Beginning at a White Oak on the Eastside of a Ridge (twenty two poles South of the Claimants own corner black Oak and on the East side said Creek runing thence East crossing a branch Seventy six poles to a Grub in Frances Youngs Line, thence along his line North four poles to his corner white Oak then along his line the Same course crossing a branch, two hundred and Ninety One (in all) two hundred and Ninety five poles to a black Oak on Stoney ridge then West Seventy six poles to the Claimants own line, thence South along along (sic) own line to the first Station, as by the plat here unto annexed doeth appear: Together with all woods, waters, mines, minerals, hereditaments and appurtenances to the Said land belonging or appurtaining: to Hold to the said Robert Nelson his heirs and assigns forever forever. Yielding and paying to us Such Sums of money yearly, or otherwise, as our General Assembly from time to time may Direct. Provided always, That the Said Robert Nelson Shall cause this Grant to be Registered in the Registers office of our Said county of Guilford within twelve months from the date hereof, otherwise the same Shall be void and of no effect.
