Book E:246   SMITH, Thomas  HAYS William  Deed  Two acres

This Indenture made this 17th Day of Feby one thousand Seven hundred & 
Ninety eight by & between William HAY of the County of Henry & State of 
Virginia of the one part and Thomas SMITH of the County of Rockingham & 
State of North Carolina of the other part  Witnesseth that the said 
William HAYS for & in consideration of the sum of ten shillings to him in 
hand paid by the said Thomas SMITH, the receipt whereof he doth hereby 
acknowledge hath bargained Sold and by these presents do bargain sell 
alien and confirm unto him the said Thomas SMITH his heirs and assigns 
forever one certain Tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County 
of Rockingham containing Two acres be the same more or less and bounded 
as followeth to wit:  Begining at a poplar in the Virginia line being 
William KELLUMS corner tree standing about eight steps East from the house
of the said Thomas SMITH, thence South about ninety steps to a white oak 
on the top of the ridge, thence West one hundred and forty steps to a 
Chesnut tree, thence South forty five steps to the Virginia Line, thence 
East on the said line to the begining. The reversion & reversions, 
remainder & remainders, right and Estate Interest and benefit claim and 
Demand whatsoever of the said William HAYS of & in & to the same or any 
part thereof To have and To Hold the said Tract or parcel of Land with 
their & every of their appurtenances to the only use and behoof of him 
the said Thomas Smith his heirs and assigns forever and the said William 
HAYS doth hereby for himself & his heirs Warrant and Defend the same 
forever from the Claim or title of any person or persons whatsoever   
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my Seal the Day 
& year above written
