says 20 acres]

This Indenture made this 30th day of May one thousand Seven hundred & 
Ninety eight between Elisha ALEXANDER of the County of Rockingham and 
State of North Carolina of the one part and Francis SMITH of the County 
of Rockingham & the Said State of the other part  Witnesseth that the 
said Elisha ALEXANDER for & in consideration of the Sum of Eleven pounds 
to him in hand paid by the said Francis SMITH the receipt whereof he 
doth hereby acknowledge, hath bargained sold and by these presents do 
bargain sell alien and confirm unto him the said Francis SMITH his heirs 
and assigns forever, one certain Tract or parcel of land lying and being 
in the County of Rockingham Containing Twenty acres be the same more or 
less and bounded as followeth to wit:  Begining at Elisha ALEXANDERS 
corner white oak tree runing Suthward twenty poles taking in the Mill 
Seat across pawpaw Creek to a white Oak tree runing thence up the said 
creek forty poles to the mouth of a branch up the branch Eighty poles to 
a beachElisha ALEXANDERS line & James GALLAWAYS, runing East twenty pole 
to a black oak on Drury SMITHS line, thence South Ninety four pole to 
the first Station. The reversion & reversions, remainder & remainders 
right and Estate Interest and benefit claim and Demand whatsoever of the 
said Elisha Alexander, of in or to the same or any part thereof To have 
and to hold the said Tract or parcel of Land with their and every of 
their appurtenances to the only use and behoof of the said Francis SMITH 
his heirs and assigns forever and the said Elisha Alexander doth hereby 
for himself and his heirs Warrant and Defend the same forever from the 
claim or title of any person or persons whatsoever In Witness whereof I 
have hereunto Set my hand and fixed my Seal the day and year above 
written.
