PRIVATE CALVIN TROXLER, of the Rockingham Rangers, commanded by CAPT. SETTLE, and connected with the 3rd Regiment, North Carolina Volunteers, was attacked with measles, about the time the regiment arrived here. He recovered, but the attack was followed by typhoid pneumonia, with which he suffered severely, then breathed his last. On Monday morning the whole regiment turned out and marched to the hospital, where his remains were neatly encased, and conducted to the depot on the Seaboard and Roanoke Railroad. The companies gathered around the coffin, and REV. MR. ANDREWS, CHAPLAIN, offered a few appropriate remarks, prayed and pronounced the benediction, after which the body was placed on the cars, and a salute was fired, and in care of two comrades, the body was sent home to be interred in the family burying ground. The sickness and death of this young man excited much sympathy, not only among his comrades, but among the citizens. Tears moistened many eyes, as they looked upon the coffin containing the dead body. MR. TROXLER was about 30 years old, and is said to have been a most exemplary and highly esteemed young man. His father, BARNET TROXLER, ESQ., is living in Rockingham County, and he has brothers and sisters, who will, no doubt, be gratified to know that though he died among strangers, every thing was done for him that could be, under the circumstances, and the tears of strangers were mingled with his at their death. -- Christian (Va.)
