[?ca April 1838] while sitting on a stump calculating the number of hills in a tobacco field. Death was a result of blows to the head and other areas of his body which had been inflicted by the negroes. The negroes were arrested and jailed. First published in the Greensboro NC Patriot [issue date not given]; notice published 09 May 1838.
