I Sarah Ellington of the County of Rockingham and State of North Carolina being weak in body but of sound mind and memory, thanks be to God for his mercies, and calling to mind the certainty of death, do make and ordain this my last will and Testament in manner and form as follows, to wit. Item 1st. I give all my weaning clothes to be equally divided between my daughter Elizabeth S. Guerant and my four daughters in law namely Frances Ellington, Obedience Ellington, Elizabeth Ellington wife of my son Pleasant and Judith A. Ellington. Item 2nd. I give and bequeath to my son Grief's children, namely, Josiah, Daniel, Sarah Motley, John Marshal, and Elizabeth Ann.... ....one cow by the name of Cherry & one stear by the name of Sambo, to them and their heirs forever. Item 3rd. I give and bequeath to my grandson Josiah D. Ellington one bed quilt to him and his heirs forever. Item 4th. I give and bequeath to my grandson Daniel T. Ellington, son of Farraw Ellington one male calf known by the name of Cherry's calf to him and his heirs forever and further my will is that all the balance of property not heretofore mentioned shall be equally divided amongst my children hereinafter named, to wit: my son John Ellington's children as one legatee, Pascal Ellington, Pleasant Ellington, Elizabeth S. Guerrant, William J. Ellington, Alexander M. Ellington, my son Grief Ellington's as one legatee, and Farrow Ellington. And lastly I do appoint my grandson John W. Ellington and Lloyd Waters, Executors to this my last will and testament, dated this first day of May in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty three. Lillard Sarah Ellington SEAL State of North Carolina Rockingham County August Term 1837 The foregoing last will and testament was produced in open court and offered for probation and was duly proven by the oaths of Reason Jeffries and Elsey M. Lillard the two subscribing witnesses thereunto and on motion ordered to be recorded. Whereupon John W. Ellington and Lloyd Waters the Executors therein named came into Court and renounced their Executorship. When Pascal Ellington came forward and was permitted to qualify as Administrator with the will annexed, and entered into Bond in the sum of four hundred dollars with Thomas Smith and R.F.
