Book A, pp. 77 & 78. Rockingham County, NC. In the name of God, Amen. I EDWARD POWEL of the County of Rockingham and State of North Carolina being very sick and but of perfect mind and thanks be given unto God calling unto mind the mortality of the body and knowing that it is apointed for all men once to die Do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to say ---principally and first of all I give and recommend my sole into the hand of almighty God that givest and my body I recommend to the earth to be buryed in a decent Christian buriel at the disgression of my Executors nothing doubting but at the general resurection I shall receive the same by the hand of the Almighty power of God and as tuching such worldly goods as God has been pleased to bless me with in this life I give and dispose of in the following namer and form First I give and bequath to my beloved daughter Elizabeth two Negros one by the name of Charles and the other Sue also I give to my Daughter Rachel two Negros one by the name of Thomas and Silvy Also I give to my son William two Negros by the names of Dave and Cotton also I give to my daughter Barbary two Negros by the Name of Robert and Nan also I give to my daughter Cathy two Negros by the Name of Sarey and Hambon Also I give to my son Stephen two Negros by the Name of Jack and Henry? and two named Simon and Marey and all the rest my residue to be equally divided amongst my surviveing sons and daughters.
