Rowan County 23rd April, A.D. 1844
This day personally appeared Hampton Ellis, late a slave of Mary Ellis, and 
Jane Bradshaw, late a slave of John A. Bradshaw, who acknowledge that they 
have been cohabiting as man and wife since the 1st day of October, A.D. 1843, 
and wish to continue as much.
