The David McGuire family moved to Madison County, Tennessee sometime after 1826. On October 7, 1826, David McGuire sold 174 ½ acres to his brother James McGuire, Jr. The 174 ½ acres is the land David’s father, James McGuire, Sr., deeded his son on April 28, 1814 in Rowan County, North Carolina. By 1830, David McGuire and his family are listed in the census of Madison County, Tennessee. David McGuire & Famiel “Fanny” Ham had four children – James McGuire (husband of Rachel Baily) – whose Guardian Settlement is listed above; Martha “Mattie/Marthy” McGuire (wife of George D. Blair); George Washington McGuire (husband of Martha Jane Eddins); and Synthia McGuire (not known whether she reached adulthood). The above James McGuire (son of David McGuire)died by 1850 in Madison County, TN. According to the 1850 census of Madison County, TN three of his four children, George Baily McGuire, Susan Frances McGuire, and David Perry McGuire were living with their grandfather, Ishmael Baily. Mary Louise McGuire was living with her aunt Martha McGuire Blair (sister of James McGuire) in 1850. Guardian papers show, Henry S. Parker, an uncle, as Guardian in 1851. Upon the death of Henry S. Parker, George Washington McGuire (brother to James McGuire) became Guardian to the four McGuire children until June 14, 1859 when the final Guardian Settlement was filed. Both George Baily McGuire and David Perry McGuire died in the Civil War. Susan Frances McGuire (wife of Dr. John Carroll Flinn) and Mary Louise McGuire (wife of Francis “Frank” McMordie) moved to Texas and raised their families.
