We the subscribers after being qualified agreeable to act of assembly in such case made and provided. Have set off the dower of MINTA McGUIRE widow of SAMUEL McGUIRE dec’d in the lands he died seized and possessed of as follows. Beginning at a portion in said SAML dec’d and JOHN HENDRICK’s line – in their line 56° East to a stake, North one chain to a Maple JOHN HENDRICK’s corner North 56° East wire chains to a dogwood his corner, South 30° East 12 ˝ chains to a stone South 56° West, 16 ˝ chains to a stake, North 37 ˝ West 9 chains to a stake, South 56° West two chains to a stake, North 37 ˝° West nine and a half chains to a sweetgum, North 56° East thru chains and sixty link stakes in a branch, thence to the first station. Containing 33 acres be the same more or less with every the opportunances. (seal) Daniel (his+mark) Foster (seal) Daniel Hendricks (seal) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Order to Lay Off Dower of MINTY McGUIRE Rowan County August Session 1828 Ordered by the Court that the Sheriff summon a jury of good and lawful men to lay off by metes and bounds the dower of MINTY McGUIRE in the lands whereof her husband SAMUEL McGUIRE died seized and possessed in Rowan County. GILES Additional Comments: Samuel McGuire, son of James McGuire and Eleanor Luckey, born about 1786 in Rowan County, North Carolina; married Arminta “Minty” Kelley on June 3, 1815 in Rowan County, North Carolina. Samuel McGuire was the original owner/builder of the McGuire-Setzer Home in Mocksville, Davie County (formerly Rowan) North Carolina which still stands today and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. About 1836, Minty McGuire sold her dower right in the land formerly owned by her husband, Samuel McGuire to Andrew Setzer. About 1880, the McGuire-Setzer property came once again into the McGuire family by Dr. James McGuire, son of Sarah McGuire and Dr. Samuel McAfee and nephew of Samuel McGuire (original owner).
