Note: James Ellis is son of Willis Ellis who died in Rowan County in 1816. Rowan County Deeds, 9 Feb 1819, P. 107] This Indenture made the Ninth day of February in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Nineteen Between John Ellis and David Ellis Legatees of John Ellis Dec’d. of the County of Rowan and State of North Carolina of the one part and James Ellis of the above county and State of the other part. Witnesseth that for & in consideration of the Sum of Eighty Dollars to the said John Ellis & David Ellis in hand paid by the said James Ellis, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by them the said John Ellis & David Ellis Hath given, granted, bargained, & sold and by these presents doth give, grant, sell, convey and confirm unto the said James Ellis his heirs and assigns a tract or parcel of Land, lying and being on the North Side of the Yadkin River in the County & State aforesaid known by the name of Ellises Island which said Island joins John Ellis’s deed(ed) land beginning at a stake standing in the bank of the Yadkin River in the said Ellises field and in the line of his old deeded Land just above two small Islands in the River and running thence west ten chains to a rock in the River Thence South twenty five chains to a stake Thence East five ch’s to a stake in his the said John Ellis’s, Dec’d., aforesaid old line, Thence up the River as it meanders to the Beginning Including two Islands & a Fish trap in the Thorafare belonging to the said Ellis Containing Eighteen Acres be the same more or less together with the Reversions & Reversions Remainder & remainders Issues rents & services to have and to hold the said Eighteen Acres of land & with all the appurtenances rights priviledges & Improvements belonging to the same or any ways hereunto belonging or appertaining to him the said James Ellis his heirs and assigns shall and may from time to time & at all times forever hearafter peasably and quietly use occupy & enjoy & possess the aforesd land and premises, with all grounds, woods, Timbers, pastures, Houses, Gardains, Orchards, waters and water causes and all other writes & privileges profits hereditaments to the same belonging or anywise appertaining thereunto without the least hindrance molestation or interruption by the said John Ellis & David Ellis and from all other incumberances whatsoever except the quit Rents, & the said John Ellis & David Ellis by these presents oblige themselves their Heirs Executors and Administrators or assigns to warrant and defend the aforesd granted land & premises to him the said James Ellis his heirs and assigns forever against the lawful claim title or demand of any person whatever in testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands & seals the day and year abovewritten.
