He stated that he was born in January 1751. He enlisted in the summer of 1776 in Captain Young's company in General Rutherford's North Carolina troops. He also served three months in 1776 under Captain Young in Colonel Martin's regiment. In the summer of 1780 he enlisted again under Captain Higgins in North Carolina troops. In the fall of 1781 he enlisted under Captain Bell and Colonel Graham. He was in the Cherokee Expedition.
