C. He entered the service June 22, 1780, under Captain Peter Hardwick, Colonel Francis Locke, and General Griffith Rutherford. Later he served under Captains Thomas Carson, William Cole, Hugh Hall and John Topp. He served in a skirmish against the British and Tories commanded by Colonel Fanning.
