Pension rejected; unable to prove sufficient length of service. Born Rowan County, NC on 9 Nov 1759, age 73 in 1834. No record of age. Volunteered at Frowhawk's [sic] mill in Rowan co. 1780 or 1781 under Capt. Benjamin Carter for 12 months, marched to "high hills of Santee" under Gen'l. Green; stated served 9 months, contracted smallpox, severe cold, right shoulder separated, father (unnamed) came after him. States he was furloughed, papers lost. Subsequently joined Cavalry for 3 months under Gen'l Rutherford protecting country around Salisbury. From Rowan County he removed to Surry co, NC; from there to Sullivan co, East Tennessee; from there removed to McMinn co, TN; then to Franklin co, TN; and from Franklin to White co, TN where was residing 13 January 1835. Affidavits signed in White co, TN stated they were well acquainted with Thomas Stanfield were: Stephen Holland, George D. Howard, Rev. Elisha Swift, [Major] James Anderson. Stanfield also gave as reference [Maj.] Lewis Philips. [This was not in pension record.
