Rowan County, NC - Adam Philips Revolutionary War Pension, 1850 February 15, 1933 The Quartermaster General Memorial Branch War Department Washington, DC Dear Sir: Reference is made to your request for information relative to Adam Philips who served in the War of the Revolution as a private with the North Carolina Troops and died near Asheville, North Carolina. The data furnished herein were obtained from papers on file in pension claim S.8955 based upon the military service of Adam Philips in the War of the Revolution. Adam Philips enlisted in Rowan County, North Carolina, no date given, served as a private in Captain Simmons' Company, Colonel Francis Locke's North Carolina Regiment, was in the battle of Cowan's Ford and guarded prisoners at Salisbury; length of service six months. He was allowed pension on his application executed April 11, 1850 at which time he was aged eighty-seven years and living in Buncombe County, North Carolina. The papers on file in this claim contain no reference to wife or children of the soldier, Adam Philips. The application for headstone for Adam Philips (Phillips) is returned herewith, and a letter from Mrs. Leslie B. Clark, Lance House, Hot Springs, North Carolina. Very truly yours, A.D.
