The Standard of Raleigh, March 20, 1861 
FIRE IN SALISBURY J
-- The Veranda House, at the depot in Salisbury, was consumed by fire on the 
morning of the 15th. The fire is supposed to have been communicated from the 
burning out of a chimney. The house belonged to JOHN J. SHAVER, ESQ., and was 
kept by MR. S. BENJAMIN. Insurance on it $4,000, but not enough to cover the 
loass. Most of the furniture was saved.
