Since that date I find that quite an additional number are embraced in the list and now live within the described limits. Consequently, I tender you the communication revised. There lives in this vicinity, in what is known as the Dutch or German Settlement, nineteen persons, the sum of whose ages is fifteen hundred and ten years. - They nearly all live within a radius of one mile. Today they reside on their respective farms, most of which they have owned and cultivated for the past half century. One of the number was a soldier in the war of 1812, and is now a pensioner of the United States. Franklin Steele, age 87, has lived on the same farm 35 years. Frederick Cartner, age 84, has lived on the same farm 60 years. John Luckey, age 85, has lived on the same farm 50 years. Samuel Felker, age 85, has lived on the same farm 60 years. Wilson Turner, age 84, has lived on the same farm 40 years. Peter Saffret, age 77, has lived on the same farm 40 years. Levi Niblock, age 81, has lived on the same farm 81 years. William Smith, age 73, has lived on the same farm 73 years. Thomas Little, age 72, has lived on the same farm 40 years. Elizabeth Little, age 70, has lived on the same farm 40 years. Jane Smith, age 77, has lived on the same farm 77 years. Eliza Smith, age 75, has lived on the same farm 50 years. Sarah Krider, age 84, has lived on the same farm 50 years. *Margaret Hollebaugh, age 83, has lived in the vicinity of her present residence 50 years. Elizabeth Turner, age 78, has lived on the same farm 40 years. Catherine Saffret, age 73, has lived on the same farm 40 years. Sena Felker, age 77, has lived on the same farm 50 years. Rebecca Luckey, age 84, has lived on the same farm 60 years. Mary Niblock, age 81, has lived on the same farm 50 years. The above is in the main correct. If you think it worthy of publication you are at liberty to do so. It certainly is a strong argument in favor of this portion of North Carolina as a home for those who desire to live a long life on the farm. Yours, &e, G.E. Shepherd. _______ *Note - Mrs. Margaret Hollebaugh, one of the ladies mentioned in the above list is 83 years old, and having lived in one vicinity for 50 years, has been remarkable for her kindness to sick people and all others in distress. We are told that she was married in her youth, had one child, and child and husband dying early, she has since devoted her life to aiding the sick and distressed in her neighborhood. She never owned land, and for many years never had a particular place as her home, but, like a good Angel, has been going about doing good. When she dies humanity will mourn the loss of a friend. - ED. DEMOCRAT. Additional Comments: The Carolina Watchman - Salisbury, N.
