The Semi-Weekly Messenger (Wilmington NC) January 7, 1898
Salisbury Sun: The sun this morning received news of a most foul murder which
was committed near Mauney's mill, in the eastern part of Rowan, yesterday
evening. The man killed was Milas Reid, and the murderer is Thomas Broadaway,
both white.
