Thurs., Sept. 13, 1860  North Carolina Argus
   MAJOR GEN. SAMUEL GAITHER, for many, long years a fearful sufferer from 
rheumatism, died at the residence of MR. THOMAS McNEELY, in Salisbury, on 
Thursday last, aged 55 years. He was confined to his bed for five or six 
years, and for a large portion of the time almost entirely helpless -- 
Salisbury Watchman
