Rowan Co. NC - OBIT: William Russell, 1872 Submitted by Sloan Mason Death of William RUSSELL of Stokes Ferry "Carolina Messenger" July 29, 1872 Goldsboro, Wayne Co.,N.C. The "Salisbury Watchman" learns from a gentleman from Stokes Ferry, that William RUSSELL committed Suicide on last Monday bout 2 o'clock by shooting himself with a rifle. The bail entered his forehead killing him instantly. Mr. RUSSELL had begun to eat dinner, when he got up from the table and left the room saying that "he would rather died than to know he was being destracted" He had been gone about five minutes when the family heard the report of the gun, and being alarmed at his not returning went to search of him and found him near the house lying dead.
