I MARY BRANDON of N. Carolina & County of Rowan Being very weak of Body, but of sound mind & memory & disposed thanks be to God for his mercy & calling to mind the mortality of the body knowing it is appointed for all men once to die & after death to come to judgement – I commit my soul to God through our Lord Jesus Christ & my body to the earth to be decently buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my executor hoping to have, both, soul & body again united at the general resurrection by the mighty power of God – And as touching say worldly goods as it had pleased God to bless me with in this life – I give & dispose of in following manners. First, I give & bequeath to my daughter JANNET LUCKY my two heifers & all my wearing clothes & spinning yarn, one feather bed & furniture. Secondly, I give & bequeath to ISABEL HENDRIX one cow & colt & my plough & irons. Thirdly, I give to my daughter MARY GLASSCOCK one puter dish – And all the rest of my movable estate of every kind to be equally divided between my daughter ISABEL HENDRIX & JANNET LUCKEY & two year rent of my plantation due from JOHN JOHNSON. Fourthly, I give & bequeath to my son ROBERT LUCKEY five pounds current money & no more of my estate. Fifthly, My desire is that all my land lying on the east side of Hunting Creek, be sold at the discretion of my executor & the rest of the tract to be sold at the expiration of JOHN JOHNSON’S time & 2 or 3 Gales of payments to be given as my executor may think most proper & the money arising from the sale of the land to be divided in the following manner to wit. My three daughters MARY GLASSCOCK, ISABELLA HENDRIX, & JANNET LUCKEY each of them to have two shares & my sons JAMES LUCKEY & GEORGE LUCKEY to have one share, so that each of my daughters shall have double as much as the two last mentioned sons, my just debts & funeral charges to be paid out of the money arising from the land before any division – And lastly I do constitute & appoint my son in law HENRY HENDRIX my whole & sole executor of this my last will & testament, revoking & making void all wills by me hereto fore made, ratifying & confirming this & no other to be my last will & testament in witness I have set my hand & seal this 8 of May 1797.
