Being in sound mind and of my proper recollection, I William Butler of Madison County , Tennessee have this day constituted, made and ordained that this my last Will and Testament that is to say just after my death that my body be decently buried and my funeral expenses paid. 2nd. I give and bequeath to my daughter, Edith Butler, to have and to hold forever a certain part of the tract of land where I now live including houses, lots, meadow s, barns, stables, any acres by survey and I further give and bequeath to her my negro woman Dorcas, to have and to hold forever, and I give and bequeath to her all my household and kitchen furniture with the exception of two beds and furniture and one jone large kettle. 3rd I give and bequeath to my two sons, William and Elisha Butler, mall of the balance of the two hundred deed acre tract of land where I now live and thirty five acres of land adjoining the said two hundred acres, a bulk part of a hundred acre tract granted to me by the state of Tennessee for them to have and to hold forever. 4th I give and bequeath to my daughter, Sally Click, my negro woman Fanny and three hundred dollars in current money of this State. 5th, I give and bequeath to my son Henry Butler, my negro man Ramus and all my interest in my mill and any interest in the three acres of land whereon the mill stands each to have and hold forever. 6th I give and bequeath to my son,Thomas Butler, notes and accounts I hold against him for about two hundred and thirty dollars and two hundred and seventy dollars in ________ to be made out of the sales of my property after my death. 7th I give and bequeath to my son, Charles Butler, a receipt for money he received of me upward of two hundred dollars and current money of this state enough to _____ the receipt to make five hundred dollars. 8th I give and bequeath to my son John Butler my negro boy Hampton and him the said Hampton to be kept by my Executor for the time of seven years for my said son. If my said son, John Butler, does not comw forward in the time of seven years from and after my death, the said boy Hampton shall be sold on a credit of twelve months and then the money shall be kept for the time of seven years longer and the said John Butler nor none of his legal heirs comes forward in that said seven years, the price of the said Hampton shall then be divided between the balance of my children who that are then living. 9th I give and bequeath to my son David Butler and to his children my negro man, Anderson, to have and to hold forever, the said biy shall not be at all disposed of by the said David Butler , nor to be disposed of by no person for him to keep until his youngest child comes to the age of twenty one years. 10th I give and bequeath to my daughter, Mary Chandler, the five dollars believing she has heretofore received more than an equal portion of my estate with the rest of my children. 11th I hereby nominate, constitute and appoint Henry Marsh and William Hudson my Executors and hereby give them all the powers and privileges that is by law allowed executors of wills. And I hereby request and desire them as soon as is convenient either one or both of them to take into possession all and every part of my Estate either personal or real and all manner of property and sell the same all and every part thereof an put on a credit of twelve months and the moneys when collegted put to the fulfilling of the foregoing part of this my will and that they take in possession all moneys, notes or acts that are due and just demands against therewith pay all debts dues and just demands against me and I further give and bequeath to my granddaughter Eliza Butler my negro boy Washington to hold forever. Many of his descendants remained in Rowan and Mongomery Counties NC.
