ROWAN COUNTY, NC - WILLS - Abstracts Of Campbell Wills ----¤¤¤¤---- DANIEL CAMPBELL 1781 - April 29. "Whereas I, Daniel Campbell am now going on an expedition to South Carolina, and as my return may be uncertain, have thought proper to dispose of my worldly affairs in the following manner; that providing I should not survive the intended expedition, I bequeath to William Bones, tailor of said state and county the negro which I am to receive as bounty for the above mentioned tour, together with the black horse I now possess in consideration of which said William is to discharge all the debts formerly contracted by me that are yet un-paid. The rest of my property without exception I bequeath to the oldest daughter of James Morrison on Silver Creek in Burke County. Signed in the presence of J. McCall Jr.. and James Bones Jr. ...copy for Jo. McDowell 1781 Will Book B/21 JOSEPH CAMPBELL 1805 - May 26. Joseph Campbell Sr. writes his Last Will and Testament. Names wife Rebekah, sons John Campbell, "one French Crown to be levied out of my estate." Adlai Campbell, Elijah, Elisha and 3 other youngest sons not named here. Names sons-in-law John Fulton, Robert Cowan and Joseph Hall who married Hannah and Samuel Orten who married Rebekah. Will is signed in the presence of Thomas Anderson and Ruth Harris. Will Book E/271 JOHN CAMPBELL 1838 - February 15. John Campbell appoints Maxwell Chambers of Salisbury and his brother, Adlai Campbell of Indianna as executors to his last will and testament. Adlai is given 6000 dollars. Gives to Nathan Cowan, Robert V. Cowan, Adlai Cowan and Aaron V. Cowan 1500 dollars each. He gives to his sister Rebekah Orton 6000 dollars. Gives to each of the children of his sisters, Hannah Hall (Hale?), Rachel Orten and and Margaret Sides (?) 1500 Dollars each. John bequeaths the remainder of his estate to each of the children of his brother Joseph Campbell. Note: "I request of my Executors that every inquiry be made after those families that we know not where they reside in all the newspapers that may be printed west of NC." Proved by the Oath of Robert Flemming, John L. Carson and Rufus H. Kilpatrick at August 1838 Session Rowan County Court. Will Book 1/43 JAMES N. CAMPBELL 1858 - April 18. James N. Campbell requests of Mr. A. Locke to "take my property and pay all my just claims, to put tombstones at the graves of my mother and Robert." "If either of my sisters suffer, relieve them. Don't let them suffer." If any money is left after they die, to make it his own. Recorded in February 1859.
