Second, I will and bequeath to my wife Mary and Flora Jane Elizabeth all of my personal property and effects to be equally devided between them. April 7th 1871 Signed and Sealed in the presence of S. Henley Fredric (his + mark) Cartner (Seal) Wiley Felker ********************************************************************** State of North Carolina, Rowan County, ss. In the Superior Court A paper purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of Frederick Cartner deceased, is exhibited before me, the undersigned Clerk Superior Court for said County by the executer therein mentioned, and the due execution thereof by the said Frederick Cartner by the oath and examination of the subscribing witnesses thereto: who being duly sworn, doth depose and say, and each for himself deposeth and saith, that he is a subscribing witness to the paper- writing now shown him, purporting to be the last will and testament of Frederick Cartner; that the said Frederick Cartner, in the presence of this deponent, subscribed his name at the end of said paper-writing which now shown as aforesaid, and which bears date of 7th day of April 1871. And the Deponent Further Saith, That the said Frederick Cartner as aforesaid, declare the said paper-writing so subscribed by him and exhibited, to be his Last Will and Testament, and this deponent did thereupon subscribe his name at the end of said Will as an attesting witness thereto, and at the request and in the presence of the said testator. And this deponent further saith, that at the said time when the said testator subscribed his name to the said last Will as aforesaid, and at the time of deponent’s subscribing his name as an attesting witness thereto, as a aforesaid, the said Frederick Cartner was of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a will, and was not under any restraint to the knowledge, information or belief of the deponent: And further these deponents say not. S. Henley (Seal) Wiley (his + mark) Felker (Seal) Severally sworn and subscribed this 16th day of February 1886, before me J. M. Horah, C.S.C. Additional Comments: Frederic/Frederick Cartner had three wives: Caty Felker, Margaret Felker, and Mary Jane Gilmore. The child listed in this will is his first daughter by wife Mary Jane Gilmore. Frederick and Mary Jane had five more children after this will was written - Fannie, Margaret "Maggie", Nancy "Nannie", George Alexander, and Mary Lucy.
