Salisbury NC, Privately printed, n.d., G:466 In the name of God Amen, the 19th March 1817 I John Dickey of Rowan County in the State of N. C. being sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God, and calling unto mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed for man to die do make this my last will & Testament, and principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul to the hand of God, that gave it hoping through the death, merits, and intercession of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to have a full and free pardon and forgiveness of all my Sins and to inherit everlasting life and my body I commit to the earth in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named nothing doubting but to receive the same again at the General resurrection of the Mighty power of God. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me with, in this life, I give, bequeath, demise and dispose of in the following manner and form (Viz). my will and pleasure is that all these just debts I do owe to person or persons whomever, be duly paid out of my estate, in some convenient time after my decease by my Executors hereafter named. Item give and bequeath to Elizabeth Dickey twenty dollars, to my brother William Dickey fifty cents, to my brother Joel Dickey fifty cents, and the rest of my property to be equally divided between my five half brothers. And lastly I appoint and ordain Thomas Cowan, and William Cowan Executors of this my last will & testament, hereby revolking & disannulling all forms and other will Testaments bequeaths, legacies, demises & Executors by me in any manner of way before this time named, willed bequeathed or demised, satisfying & informing this to be my last will & Testament. Signed sealed published pronounced & declared by the sd Jno Dickey as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us the Subscribing Witnesses.
