Translation from Old German

In the name of God, I Johannes Greim, residing on Abbotts Creek in Rowan
County, North Carolina, a farmer.  I am weak and sickly but with a good
memory for which I thank God.  I find it necessary to clear my conscience,
not only for myself and my poor soul but also for my heirs.  I give my soul
to the Heavenly Father and hope he will be pleased with it, and for my body
I wish a Christian burial.

Concerning my heirs I herewith make my last will and testament as follows.
First of all I leave to my beloved wife Margarette because of all her
troubles in my illness all my property, the bed of her choice, also the box
with all her clothes, my horse, plus the lady's saddle, plus the spinning
wheel.  I also give her one of my cows of her choice, also an iron pot of
her choice.  It is also my last wish that the cupboard with the dishes,
plates and spoons shall belong to her.  Anything else in the cupboard should
not be taken from her.

Second I am ordering that my wife Margarette after my departure if she stays
my widow keep all the land until Henry reaches the age of twenty-one.

Third.  I am ordering that the land I own will go to my son Henry as his
inheritance on the condition that when he receives it Christinia will
receive twenty-five pounds.

Fourth I am ordering herewith that all my other belongings that have not
been mentioned above will be auctioned off and the money be shared with the
three above mentioned heirs.

I am authorizing in this my last testament after my death Michael Myers and
Charles Grimes both living on Abbotts Creek and also my wife Margarette as
administrators.  I am ordering them after my death to act exactly and
faithfully according to this document, not to overlook any duty; and I am
ordering them in particular to see that my two children if in any way
possible not be taken from their mother and will be sent to school and
encouraged to learn.  I would like to add that my wife be provided for.
Before Henry takes over the land he and Christina are to provide for their
mother and share the cost equally.

This is my own strong will and last order which I hope will be executed.  I
enforce it with my signature.
