Rowan County, NC – Will of William Harper,1793 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ WILLIAM HARPER Will, May 14, 1793 -- Rowan County, NC IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, the fourteeth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety three. I William Harper, now (?) of Rowan County and State of North Carolina (farmer). Being Weak in Body But in perfect mind and Memory thanks be givd unto almity God for the same. Therefore Calling into mind the mortality of my Body and Knowing it is Appointed for all men Once to die, do make and Ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to say principly and first of all I Give and Recommend my soul into the hand of God that Gave it and as for my Body I Recommend it to the Earth to be Buried in a Christian Like and Deacent Manner at the Descration of my Executors. Northing Doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall Receive the same Again by the Mighty power of God and as tuching (taking) such Worldly Estate Wherein it had pleased God to ble(ss) me with in this Life I give and devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. IMPRIMIS I give and Bequeath to Mary my Dearly Beloved Wife One Feather Bed and furniture During her Life time and that to be kept up in a Deacent manner Likewise a Good sufficient Maintainence of washing Lodging Clothing and Pictuling (?) during her Life-time but of my Estate and after her death to be Buried in a Christian Like manner and her Bed to Return to Rhoda & Elisabeth. Lifewise I give to my Eldest son Zephaniah Harper the sum of five pounds. I do also give unto my daughter Zilpah the sum of five shillings. I do also give unto my daughter Drusilla two cows. I do also give unto my son William Harper a Negro man Named Job. I do also give unto my Daughter Mary, A young horse and five pounds. And I do also give and Bequeath Unto my two Daughters Rhoda and Elisabeth and their heirs all my Lands and premises to be Equally Divided. Likewise all the Rest of my Stock and household furniture of Every Kind and farming Utenshals. And I so herby Appoint my two sons Zephaniah Harper and William Harper my Executrix of this my Last Will and testament. Hereby Revoking all former wills by me made in Witne(ss) Whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written.
