In the name of God Amen, I Daniel Hess of the County of Rowan and State of 
North Carolina being weak of body but of sound and disposing mind and memory 
do this 16th January 1847 make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in 
manner and form following.(viz)
1st I commend my Soul to Almighty God who gave it and my body to be interred 
in a decent and Christian like manner-
2nd I will and bequeath unto my beloved wife Susannah all my property or so 
much as she may choose to keep during her natural life as widowhood and if my 
wife should marry then it is further my wish that all my property be sold and 
my wife receive a childs part-
2nd I will and bequeath my son Henry S. Hess fifty cents, I give and bequeath 
unto my daughter Margaret Kenly and two children Miles and Columbus each fifty 
cents, I give my daughter Sally Kenly fifty cents-
3th I will and bequeath unto my son Elijah Hess fifty cents-
4th It is further my wish and desire that at the marriage or death of my wife 
that all my property be sold and one daughter by Daniel Hess, John N. Hess and 
Elijah Hesss and Mary Hess-I give and bequeath my - - -daughters Mary Ann 
Elizabeth Hess one bay horse 3 years andone heifer 3 years old and one bed and 
furniture-
Lastly I constitute and appoint my son Daniel my Executor of this my last Will 
and Testament and do hereby revoke all former wills. In his name-
